About Alamar

Nestled at the foothills of the Sierra Estrella Mountains, surrounded by the Sonoran Desert’s breathtaking landscapes and gently flowing rivers, Alamar is a new kind of master-planned community in the West Valley—one where family, nature, art, and a healthy lifestyle are part of the everyday experience.

Spread over 1,150 acres in southwest Avondale, just 18 miles from Downtown Phoenix, this collection of timeless neighborhoods celebrates its storied agrarian past and rich natural surroundings with a future-forward design combining welcoming tree-lined streets, an extensive network of green spaces, miles of scenic trails, and outdoor activities and events for all.

Alamar will feature approximately 4,000 thoughtfully designed homes once complete. Each of the four distinct home styles—including Spanish Colonial, Craftsman/Bungalow, Territorial Ranch, and Traditional Southwest—has been designed to reflect the deep-rooted history and contemporary flair of this dynamic region, and support the unique desires of all residents, from young, first-time homebuyers to families with children of all ages to empty nesters and grandparents.

Alamar is more than a community. It’s a home with a heart and soul, where more than 20 neighborhood parks accented by custom art installations provide the backdrop for daily discoveries and lifelong friendships. Where families gather for sports and outdoor activities. Where neighbors bond over shared interests. And where everyone is free and safe to explore.

Welcome to the Neighborhood

At Alamar, a neighborhood is more than a collection of streets and houses—it’s the beating heart of a connected community. Knitting together beautiful new homes, the neighborhoods that make up this community come to life with tree-lined street scenes linked by welcoming green spaces lively parks, trails, and social areas. The minute you enter Alamar, you just know it: You’re home.

The backbone of every great community is education and safety—and Alamar is committed to both. At its center will be Lakin Preparatory Academy, a new 21-acre K–8 school, planned to enhance the curriculum in the Avondale area. Opening Fall 2023, the new school will also open its doors to the community as a place for recreation and support, with shared outdoor spaces for all.

Residents can rest assured that their family is in good hands thanks to a three-acre public safety facility that includes a dedicated fire station, ensuring fast response times when it matters most. A 16-acre Commercial Center near Avondale Boulevard and Broadway Road will put even more amenities just beyond residents’ doorsteps, with opportunities for various mixed retail, entertainment, and professional services.

What's in a Name?

For many years, the Alamar site was owned and farmed by the Lakin family. The family raised cattle and pioneered the process of pelletizing of Bermuda hay. The name, Alamar, was chosen as an homage to the history and lore of the site. The alamar knot was a symbolic knot worn on a horse’s chest to signify it had graduated to become a finished bridle horse. A true badge of honor. The name and distinct logo design honor the West Valley’s longstanding agrarian culture with a contemporary aesthetic firmly rooted in the present.
